Many people buy beautiful paintings but hang them incorrectly, which makes the room look unbalanced. Interior designers follow a few simple rules to make wall art look elegant and harmonious.
Rule 1 - Hang Art at Eye Level
The center of the artwork should be about 57–60 inches from the floor.
This is the average human eye level used by art galleries. If the painting is too high, it disconnects from the space.
Rule 2 - Match Art Size with Furniture
If you are hanging art above a sofa or console: The artwork should be about 60–75% of the furniture width.
Example: Sofa width: 180 cm Ideal painting width: 108–135 cm This keeps the composition balanced.
Rule 3 - Leave Breathing Space
Leave 6–12 inches between furniture and artwork.
This creates visual breathing space and makes the artwork stand out.
